Guest Quilter: Friday July 26 - Sue King & The Silk Road

Member Sue King will give us a glimpse of her recent travels along the Silk Road at the next meeting....

The Silk Road was a vast network of trade routes linking Asia with Europe for over a thousand years. It was a conduit for exchanging prized goods such as silks, spices and precious jewels as well as the exchange of philosophies, cultures and religions. It was the catalyst for the rise and fall of some of the greatest civilisations in history and left in its wake a rich history and traditions in the applied arts. I was lucky enough to travel part of this 'road' recently and did a little shopping along the way - which I'll bring to the Friday meeting for 'Show and Tell'. It is still a major trade route today - only the camels have changed....."
