August Meeting Report

Our Guest at the August Meeting was felter and professional artist Anita Larkin.  Anita brought with her a number of her felt pieces including a number of "hats" ... here is Dorothy modelling for the camera....

Should we commission Anita to make us a 'President's Hat' for future meetings????

Anita told us about the felting process and the history of this ancient craft dating back to the 5th Century BC. She has been working with felt for some 20 years and her work is mostly a combination of sculpture and felting.   Anita showed images of a number of her sculptures and talked about their inspiration and creation. Anita's work is exhibited widely from the Wollongong Art Gallery, the University of Wollongong and The War Memorial in Canberra, just to name a few.  Anita is actively involved  with the Illawarra Felt Makers and the up coming 12th Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence at Stanwell Park.  In conjuction with the Convergence there is a felt exhibition "Feltportation"at the FCA Gallery at the University of Wollongong, open from 14 August to 12 September including works by Anita.
