Kate McEwen (one of our newer members) began quilting in the 1970s after defecting from lace making.
In the late 80s and early 90s she went to the Houston Quilt shows where she met and took classes from many quilters. She has owned and run two sewing machine shops with patchwork fabrics and gave classes for several years both in her own shops and around the country.
She hasn’t exhibited in quilt shows but has travelled the country talking about her quilts. They were hung outside at the Braidwood Airing of the Quilts for many years. They have been thrown around even at times thrown on the floor for a small child to lay on during a class ! Most were made as class samples and to showcase the new fabrics in the shop.
Kate contributed to craft magazines at the time and had many quilts in books. She was lucky enough to get the opportunity to write her own book in 1993.
Kate gave talks at Stitches and Craft Shows around the country for many years and her presentation will be about the stories attached to her quilts.
We look forward to viewing both her own quilts and hopefully some the antique quilts Kate has collected.
See you there,
