Invitation to Join Nowra Quilters in a visit to the Powerhouse Museum & War Quilts Exhibition

Nowra Quilters have invited us to join them in two excursions ......
Transport in both cases is by public transport. We ARE NOT organising a bus.
Both exhibitions run for several months. We have just chosen a day that we
are going and you are invited to join us if you wish.

1. Powerhouse Museum  ... Proposed Date   Wednesday  13 May 2015

Several displays that are likely to be of interest

a. Undress – 350 years of underwear in fashion. 28th March to 12thJuly
includes a display from Madame Lash who was a fashion designer,
performer and dominatrix specializing in fetish clothing and
bondage gear. Also on display is the bullet bra from the 40s/50s
b. Recollect Shoes runs from 29th Nov to 19th July
featuring more than 800 pairs of shoes from the 1500s to now
c. Student Fashion runs from 28th March to 23rd August
showcases eight outfits from top final year students from four
Sydney based fashion design schools
d. Jewellery and Identity from 24th September to 20th September
celebrates the central place of jewellery in our lives, from
antiquity to present day through selection of Australian made
e. Recollect Underwear from 28th March to 12th July
presents some ‘naughty and nice’ highlight from the Museums
collection of underwear

Proposed date Wed 13th May
Museum cost is $15 adult or $8 concession
Transport 6:43am train from Bomaderry; arrives Central 9:32am
Light rail plus walking does connect to this but suggest taxi as cost is
$10- $15, split either three or four ways
Transport home
2:45pm taxi to Central then train at 3:22pm arriving Bomaderry 6:12pm

War Quilts Exhibit .... Proposed Date  Wednesday 28 October 2015

3rd July to 22nd Nov (Tues – Sun)
at Manly Art Gallery and Museum
Curated by Annette Gerro, who will give a talk about the history and
story behind each of the quilts on Sunday 12th July from 2 to 3pm.
There will be quilts from all wars including one made from 15,000 pieces.

Proposed date is Wed 28th Oct  Note:  There will NOT be a talk on this day
Museum cost is free
Pay your own transport costs
($2.60 pensioners I think, $15 opal cardholders. No idea for others)
Transport there
6:43am train from Bomaderry; arrives Central 9:25am
Catch 9:46 train arrives Circular Quay 9:54am
Catch 10:30 F1 ferry arriving at Manly Wharf, Manly; 11:00am
We then walk about 385m to the art gallery.
Lunch lots of places around Manly
Transport home
Preferred option as it allows more time between changes and also we are
catching the train at Central and so should all have a seat.
2:45pm F1 ferry arrives Circular Quay 3:15pm
3:30pm train to Central arriving 3:39pm;
4:24pm train arriving Bomaderry at 7:15pm
